Microsoft Project is the desktop standard for scheduling, resource management and Gantt-chart project planning. Standard is for individual project managers; Professional adds resource pooling, team collaboration and connection to Project Server / Project Online.

Project 2021 and 2024 are perpetual licences: one-time payment, one PC. They run on Windows 10/11 and integrate with Excel, Power BI and Teams. Files use the .mpp format and are compatible with older Project versions.

Veelgestelde vragen

Does Project run on Mac?+

No. Microsoft Project is Windows-only. On Apple Silicon Macs, run it inside Parallels Desktop or a Windows 11 ARM VM.

Standard or Professional — which do I need?+

Pick Pro if you’ll connect to Project Server / Project Online or share a resource pool with other PMs. Otherwise Standard is enough.

Is Project included in Microsoft 365?+

No — Project is sold separately. There are also cloud Project Plan 1/3/5 subscriptions, which we can quote on request.

Will my .mpp files open in older Project?+

Yes. Project 2024 saves .mpp files in a format compatible with Project 2016 and newer by default.
