OEM Windows-sleutels zijn goedkoop maar gekoppeld aan één moederbord. Retail-sleutels zijn overdraagbaar. Hier leest u precies wat het verschil is en welke u het beste kunt kopen.

Het functionele verschil
Een OEM-sleutel is permanent gekoppeld aan het eerste moederbord waartegen hij wordt geactiveerd. Vervangt u het moederbord, dan vervalt de activering. U dient dan een nieuwe sleutel aan te schaffen.
Een Retail-sleutel is overdraagbaar. U kunt hem naar een nieuwe pc verplaatsen door hem op de oude pc te deactiveren (of door Microsoft de hardwarewijziging automatisch te laten detecteren na aanmelding met een Microsoft-account).

Prijs en ondersteuning
OEM-sleutels zijn goedkoper omdat Microsoft ze met korting verkoopt aan systeembouwers, met als voorwaarde dat Microsoft zelf geen directe ondersteuning biedt — die verantwoordelijkheid ligt bij de OEM (in dit geval u).
Retail-sleutels worden geleverd met directe ondersteuning van Microsoft en zijn dienovereenkomstig iets duurder.

Welke moet u hier aanschaffen?
Alle Windows-sleutels die wij verkopen zijn Retail. Levenslange activering, overdraagbaar naar een nieuwe pc, en volledige koppeling aan een Microsoft-account is mogelijk.
Wij stocen bewust geen OEM-sleutels — de besparing weegt voor de meeste klanten niet op tegen de activeringsvergrendeling.
Veelgestelde vragen
- Kan ik een OEM-sleutel verplaatsen van een defecte pc?
- Officieel niet. Microsoft koppelt OEM-sleutels aan de hardware-ID van het eerste moederbord. In de praktijk kunt u soms de MS-ondersteuning bellen om dit toe te lichten — ze kunnen de activering eenmalig herstellen, maar dat is niet gegarandeerd.
- Is een Retail-sleutel hetzelfde als een 'Full Packaged Product' (FPP)-sleutel?
- Ja. FPP is de interne aanduiding van Microsoft voor de verpakte Retail-SKU. Dezelfde activeringsrechten, alleen elektronisch geleverd.
