De tijdlijn voor het einde van de ondersteuning
Microsoft heeft de gratis updates voor Windows 10 beëindigd op 14 oktober 2025. Het besturingssysteem blijft werken, maar beveiligingspatches stoppen tenzij u zich inschrijft voor het betaalde Extended Security Updates (ESU)-programma — doorgaans $30 per jaar voor consumenten, $61 het eerste jaar voor bedrijven (jaarlijks verdubbeld).
Windows 11 ontvangt gratis updates tot minimaal oktober 2031. Elke versie van Windows 11 wordt geleverd met TPM 2.0 afgedwongen, virtualisatiegebaseerde beveiliging standaard ingeschakeld en Pluton-class root-of-trust op nieuwere chips.

Windows 11 stelt strenge hardwarevereisten: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot-geschikt, 4 GB+ RAM, 64 GB+ opslag en een CPU op de ondersteunde lijst van Microsoft (grofweg Intel 8e generatie / AMD Zen 2 of nieuwer).

Open Instellingen → Windows Update → 'Upgrade naar Windows 11 is gereed'. Duurt 30–60 minuten.
Bij rood kruis
Noteer welke vereiste niet wordt voldaan. TPM is vaak uitgeschakeld in het BIOS — schakel 'PTT' (Intel) of 'fTPM' (AMD) in, herstart en herhaal de Health Check.
Werkelijk niet ondersteund
Schaf ESU aan voor nog een jaar, of vervang de pc. Een Windows 11 Pro Retail-sleutel op deze site (€18) is goedkoper dan 12 maanden consument-ESU.

Een in-place upgrade behoudt apps en bestanden, maar maak toch een back-up voordat u op de knop drukt.
- · Volledige image-back-up (Macrium Reflect, AOMEI of de ingebouwde Windows-back-up).
- · Noteer eventuele 32-bits apps — Win 11 ondersteunt ze nog steeds, maar controleer de compatibiliteit bij de leverancier.
- · Verwijder duidelijk niet-ondersteunde software (oude VPN-clients, verouderd antivirusprogramma).
