What's new in 2024
Most of what makes 2024 feel modern is small: cleaner ribbons, smarter autosave, fewer dialogs. The real wins are in Excel and Outlook.

Office 2021 still gets security updates until October 2026 — only 5 months from the time of writing. Office 2024 gets them until October 2029.

- Can both versions coexist on one PC?
- Officially no — installers from one version uninstall the other. Use the Office Deployment Tool with side-by-side flags only if you understand the risks.
- Do .docx and .xlsx files round-trip cleanly?
- Yes. File format is identical. Features unique to 2024 simply don't render in 2021, but the data is preserved.
